Perhaps you remember another "entertainment" on the subways--the Miss Subway contest which according to wikipedia ran between 1941 and 1976. Too bad we only get get advertising these days.
Don has sold a LOT of cartoons in his career. Each numbered cartoon or illustration on the left side of this Blog is from a DIFFERENT magazine, newspaper, etc. Let's see if we can find out the total number of publications (places) where Don's work has appeared . . . . . (An unnumbered posting is a duplicate publication.)
105. The Traveller's Times
"The Traveller's Times is placed in transit vehicles by Metro Transit Advertising for the entertainment of riders." This statement is from the New York City publisher's stationery. Don did over 40 illustrations and cartoons that appeared on buses and subway cars in late sixties. Placards offered riders a bit of humor, history, philosophy and poetry.
