Don has sold a LOT of cartoons in his career. Each numbered cartoon or illustration on the left side of this Blog is from a DIFFERENT magazine, newspaper, etc. Let's see if we can find out the total number of publications (places) where Don's work has appeared . . . . . (An unnumbered posting is a duplicate publication.)

246. Pack o' Fun

Guess this little gal had herself a "pack o' fun"!
Yet another male oriented magazine. This, too, was one of Don's early markets, probably the 1950s. We don't have the publisher's name, but the editor was Red Kirby who bought cartoons from a lot of guys giving them their start.

Both Pack o' Fun and Nifty (along with the companion titles Wham and Zip) shared the same publishers. Red Kirby (associated with someone suspiciously named "Dave") used several publishing names, notably Dearfield, Magna, and Kirby Publishing, but all four were commonly branded together as Wolf Books.

While joke and cartoon digests were common in the 50s, Wolf books had the distinctive gimmick of having a cartoon host who was featured both on the cover and in the first 20 or so pages of each issue. The four 'hosts' each had his or her own assigned gag cartoonist. Nifty starred Nifty Nick in pages by Gerald Green and Pack o' Fun featured two different hosts over the years, Good Time Charlie, then Packy Funn, both of whom were cousins of Nifty Nick and both of whom were portrayed by Bill Wenzel. Respectively, the other two magazines, Wham and Zip, were hosted by Touring Tessie and Zippy & Pippy, by George Wolfe and Joey Oakes.
